Winsome Sears - Winner for Virginia

Winsome Sears - Winner for Virginia
Commentary by Sanford D. Horn
November 2, 2021

“What you’re looking at is the American dream.” Thus began the victory speech by newly elected Virginia Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, peppered by cheers, applause, and a chorus of “Win-some, Win-some,” before a patient and packed house in Chantilly where the GOP held their election night headquarters.

It was shortly before 1 AM, by which time Glenn Youngkin, also a Republican, had been declared the winner in governor’s race, that Sears, a United States Marine veteran, took to the stage, flanked by her husband Terence, also a Marine, and two adult daughters, Katia and Janel.

Being elected Lt. Gov., Sears becomes the first Black female to win statewide office in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In fact, in 2001, Sears became the first, and still only, Black Republican woman elected to the House of Delegates in Virginia, winning in an upset over a 20-year Democrat incumbent.

Along her path, the 57-year-old native of Kingston, Jamaica ran a homeless shelter and served as Vice President of the Virginia State Board of Education. Education was a vital plank of Sears’ campaign, although it was Youngkin who garnered the most attention during the campaign as the education candidate. (This became especially true following the September 28 gubernatorial debate where Youngkin’s Democrat opponent Terry McAuliffe said “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what to teach…. I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions.”) Sears herself earned a B.A. at Old Dominion University in English with a minor in Economics and an M.A. at Regent University in Organizational Leadership.

Sears’ American dream actually began seven months prior to her own birth when her father immigrated to the United States on August 11, 1963 with a mere “$1.75 in his pocket.” Sears would later ask her father why he would come to the United States during a time as turbulent as the Civil Rights Movement. “Because America is where the jobs and opportunities are,” he told his daughter.

“When I joined the Marines I was still a Jamaican. But I was willing to die for this country,” Sears said proudly, adding she is “proud to be American and its future,” as the crowd began to chant “U-S-A, U-S-A!”

“There are those who want to divide us and we must not let that happen. They would like us to believe we are back in 1963 when my father came…. We can live where we want. We can eat where we want.  We own the water fountains,” said Sears. “We have elected a Black president - twice. Here I am - living proof! In case you haven’t noticed, I am Black and I have been Black all my life,” continued Sears to increasing applause and cheers.

Sears was referencing McAuliffe and his team calling Youngkin and his team white supremacists. Apparently, McAuliffe was not paying attention as Virginia elected a Black Republican Lieutenant Governor, and a Cuban-American Republican Attorney General in Jason Miyares.

And in spite of these glaringly idiotic statements by the tonedeaf left, the likes of disgraced former ESPN sports reporter Jemele Hill doubled down on this failed theme. Mere minutes after Sears gave her impassioned and inspiring victory speech, Hill, herself who is Black, Tweeted “It’s not the messaging, folks, This country simply loves white supremacy.”  Apparently Hill is not just tonedeaf, but colorblind as well. But take it from whence it comes - Hill was suspended in 2017 and ultimately fired in 2018. She repeatedly politicized her work for the sport network supporting the kneeling of athletes during the National Anthem, called for the boycott of advertisers, and for the coup de grace, called President Donald Trump a white supremacist on September 11, 2017 - statement ESPN disavowed.

Joy Reid of the far-left MSNBC, supposedly a reporter, opined “Education [using air quotes], which is code for white parents don’t like the idea of teaching about race…. You have to be willing to vocalize that these Republicans are dangerous.” This is about a Commonwealth that cast more than 1.66 million votes for Sears and nearly that many for Miyares in their victories.

Nicolle Wallace, also of MSNBC, piled on with a lie that has been running rampant in progressive circles, that “Critical Race Theory, which isn’t real, turned the suburbs 15 points.” Let’s put an end to this nonsense - CRT IS real, and there is written proof it is embedded in Virginia’s educational system. But not for long, should Youngkin fulfill his promise of banning the controversial and clearly racist ideology designed to conquer and divide school children into indelibly permanent classes of victim and victimizer.

“But that’s not what this is about,” said Sears. She listed a litany of goals for the upcoming administration such as citizens keeping more of their own money, safer neighborhoods, and “our children are going to get a good education. Education lifted my father out of poverty. Education lifted me out of poverty. Education will lift us all out of poverty,” declared the Lt. Gov.-Elect, adding that children will “not just survive, but thrive, with marketable skills and create generational wealth. We will have transparent government.”

“This is a historic night. I did not set out to make history. I just wanted to leave it better than I found it,” said Sears, paraphrasing a strongly held American Indian belief. “Help is on the way. The cavalry has arrived,” concluded Sears to more applause as she thanked her family, supporters, and team on such a momentous time in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Infanticide - the New Morality?

“I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” - Ronald Reagan

Infanticide - the New Morality?
Commentary by Sanford D. Horn
January 30, 2019

My wife was born at five and a half months. Yet, in January 2019, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) ordered the spire of the new World Trade Center lit up in pink after signing into law the right of a woman to abort her baby through the third trimester to the point of dilation and crowning; celebrating the moment as a “moral victory.”

A moral victory? For whom? For the infants yearning to breathe free? For society? For the state of New York that does not have the death penalty for murderers, rapists, serial killers, yet now has the death penalty for newborns? More aptly an immoral victory for those in league with Satan; for those with no conceivable conscience or a moral compass.

Consider the powerful irony - on the site of the worst terrorist attack in the history of the United States of America, where 2,753 (CNN) men, women, and children were murdered by Muslim extremists on September 11, 2001, Cuomo orders the acknowledgment of the law sentencing innocent life to death. Those calling for the excommunication of Cuomo from the Catholic Church are right. I’m not a Catholic, yet I understand the seriousness of this demand.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, the home of the Pentagon - the building in Arlington where 184 innocent people were murdered on September 11, 2001 by Muslim extremists, the state legislature entertained a bill supported by Governor Ralph Northam to also allow the aborting - the murder, of innocent babies through the third trimester. Delegate Kathy Tran’s (D-Fairfax) bill “The Repeal Act,” allows for the abortion of human life through delivery. Ironically, Tran is the first legislator in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia to actually nurse her own infant on the floor of the State House.

As for Governor Northam, a pediatric neurologist, who clearly should know better, first announced he supported Tran’s bill during a WTOP radio interview during Wednesday’s “Ask the Governor” program.

Northam said such third trimester abortions are “done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s not viable. So in this particular example, if a mother’s in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

And then a discussion would ensue? Sounds like infanticide. Sounds like murder. Sounds like the barbarism conducted by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele during the Holocaust of European Jewry.

Crimes that sent infamous abortionist Kermit Gosnell to prison, are now legal in New York and could possibly be in Virginia. (https://sanfordspeaksout.blogspot.com/2013/05/kermit-gosnell-soul-of-nazi.html)

These are the supportive actions of the elected governors of New York and Virginia, not the work of Code Pink and Planned Parenthood. Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Rhode Island are also considering similar legislation. Where is the moral outrage? Where is the Catholic Church? Where are the Orthodox rabbis?

For those who would argue this is a woman’s choice as it is her body, no it most certainly is not. This is a human being, viable outside the womb of the so-called mother, who, if she chooses to abort her living, breathing baby, is no better than a murderer who points a gun and fires bullets into another person’s soon to be dead body.

Americans continue becoming more jaded and callous about the value of human life. More and more women publicly announce their abortions with pride with the same nonchalance as if just emerging from the dentist having had a tooth extracted. This lack of humanity is becoming increasingly dangerous. The disposable baby - a human being destroyed and discarded as though it were toilet paper. If you don’t want a baby, there are options. This may be unpopular with some, but use birth control. Put the baby up for adoption - there are myriad couples unable to conceive and would provide a loving home to your baby in a heartbeat. Don’t engage in the activity that created that baby in the first place - it’s something called self-discipline.

Today it’s women throwing away babies via abortion. When the time comes, a generation later, that same woman may have no one to take care of her, or worse, simply be discarded by the callous children she may produce and keep. Turnabout may not actually be fair play. G-d help us; and He will judge.

Swamp Draining Must Include VA, FBI

Swamp Draining Must Include VA, FBI
Commentary by Sanford D. Horn
January 24, 2017

During the 2016 presidential campaign GOP candidate and ultimate winner Donald Trump oft-repeated he would “drain the swamp,” meaning he would rid Washington, DC of the dead weight, hangers-on, and generally useless bureaucrats taking up time, space, and taxpayer dollars.

Two of the swamp denizens needing liberating from their government homes are within the Department of Veterans Affairs and the FBI. President Trump’s nominee to head the VA, David Shulkin, should not be confirmed by the US Senate, and Trump should rescind the vote of confidence given FBI Director James Comey and request his resignation.

Comey, 56, a Yonkers, NY native, earned his JD from the University of Chicago Law School and is a 2013 appointee of Barack Obama. Prior government experience includes his work as US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, followed by serving as US Deputy Attorney General.

Comey demonstrated a level of incompetence in the manner in which he handled Hillary Clinton’s e-mail scandal and server investigation. Despite having enough evidence to call for the indictment of the former Democrat candidate for president, Comey presented reasons why he could, but then pivoted by giving her a pass. Comey claimed  such an indictment would derail the 2016 presidential election. It seems if someone is indictable, he or she should actually be indicted, regardless of its impact. Comey should go.

Shulkin, currently the VA’s Undersecretary of Health, is a 57-year-old Bala Cynwyd, PA native, and another Obama appointee since 2015, has a strong background in hospital administration as the chief executive of numerous hospital systems, including the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. The board certified internist earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania (since merged with Drexel University). Were he to garner Senate confirmation, Shulkin would become the first non-veteran to head the VA.

On paper, Shulkin seems to be an acceptable nominee for this cabinet post. However, he is mired deep in the swamp to the point where he is more of the problem than the solution. It’s not even his fault as much as he is simply a cog in an old wheel rife with such bureaucratic chaos that in Congressional hearings Shulkin provided false information on issues he should have been more aware.

Testifying before a Congressional committee regarding the continuing employment of criminals at the VA, Shulkin claimed the miscreants had been fired, when in reality, they had not. Shulkin did not know this, yet an aide, who did, had to inform Shulkin of the truth. Later on that same day, Shulkin informed the House members that a particular chief of staff who had been doling out controlled substances to friends had been relieved of her authoritative position. This time Shulkin was not misinformed, but he simply lied, as this VA employee was not only still on the job, but had been promoted to oversee quality control. Talk about the fox guarding the hen house.

It’s time to hear President Trump utter those words he made so famous – “You’re fired!”

While Washington, DC may have been built on a swamp, it need not continue to be filled with creatures from the black lagoon. Although I don’t have a replacement to recommend in Comey’s stead, I would offer to President Trump the name of US Representative Tulsi Gabbard for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Gabbard, 35, is a native of American Samoa, currently representing Hawaii’s Second District. The Democrat is the first American Samoan and Hindu member of Congress and is serving in her second term after serving in the Hawaii state legislature, first elected at age 21, the youngest to serve in that body. Gabbard is a graduate of Hawaii Pacific University with a BS in Business Administration.

In addition to her business degree, Gabbard is more than qualified to serve as the head of the VA due to her military and medical backgrounds as well. An Army veteran since 2004, Gabbard has earned the rank of Major. She served in an Iraqi combat zone in a field medical unit as a specialist for a 12 month tour of duty. She continues her military service in the Hawaii Army National Guard. In fact, Gabbard opted out of a reelection campaign to her Hawaii legislative seat, choosing instead to continue her then full time military service.

Although Gabbard is a social liberal, she has solid armed forces bona fides, and serves on both the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees. Gabbard previously opposed an arms deal with Saudi Arabia calling for the US to hold that country accountable for its overt and covert involvement in global terrorism. Gabbard also opposed the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an agreement that Trump opposed and withdrew from on January 24.

US Rep. Gabbard would be a breath of fresh air at the helm of the VA and President Trump would do well to appoint her – not because he could “check some boxes” due to her demographics, but because of her clearly desirable qualifications. She understands the needs of veterans, has a military, medical, and business background as well as a desire to not just serve, but accomplish.
